Let us spoil you in our cosy guest room, in the tea room, the exciting hunting room with up to 20 people, or our fireplace room with up to 50 people.
In the “Altes Gasthaus Kuhr” we have been attaching great importance to freshness and quality for four generations. Therefore, we use mainly seasonal and regional products for our delicious dishes. You will also find selected vegetarian and vegan dishes. With us the “Chef” still cooks himself.

Are you planning the next family celebration in a private atmosphere or are you looking for a suitable location for meetings in Papenburg? The restaurant has a club room, which can accommodate up to max 15 people. For large events, our fireplace room is available for up to 50 people. Bus travelers are also always welcome here. Behind the “Alter Gasthaus Kuhr” is the “Alter Kirchplatz” car park, where buses can also park.
On May 30, 2023, the “Altes Gasthaus Kuhr” will already have been in existence for 175 years in the fourth generation. When I thought about what constitutes this long tradition, I realised that it is above all the ties we have forged over the years.
Our “Altes Gasthaus Kuhr” is therefore more than just a restaurant and a hotel. It is a place of gathering, exchange and togetherness. A togetherness of guests, friends and colleagues. A place where people from Papenburg and all over the world meet and feel comfortable.
A large family of guests and team members united by a love of and passion for gastronomy and conviviality. The families who have run this business for decades have put in a lot of work, dedication and passion. Their determination and dedication have laid the foundation on which we stand today.
A critical factor in our longstanding success is the significant role women have played in our history. From generation to generation, they have preserved hospitality and their warm nature has kept our guests returning time and time again.
Of course, it is also our many regular guests who make the “Altes Gasthaus Kuhr” special. Many of you have been regulars at our “Home” for years, some even for decades. Your loyalty and support have always inspired and spurred us to do our very best. You and our unique team are the heart and soul of our hotel and restaurant. Another element that has always shaped us is the location of our house on the main canal. This canal serves as a living connecting line between us and the world. It has brought guests to us from afar, brought trade and culture to us, and enriched us with a variety of people and stories.
